Tyranny of One, Tyranny of All

Preface

Written by Darrell Anderson.

A virus covers the planet Earth. A disease that most people are aware that exists, but seem helpless to understand or cure. A sickness that continually desensitizes human existence, continually challenges human existence, continually alienates and isolates people from one another, and ultimately, if left unattended, will destroy the essence of human existence. That disease is called statism.

Statism can be defined in one of several ways but is best understood by describing the effects rather than supply a straightforward definition. Statism is a philosophy. People embracing that philosophy believe that theft under the illusion and color of law is acceptable. Foundationally this belief is rooted in a desire to obtain as much as possible with as little effort as required. That is, the idea of getting something for nothing. Although this effort is biologically natural, humans tend to mask and cloak their efforts. They try to deceive one another. The result is increasing conflict among humans. That conflict often is bloody and violent.

One of the symptoms of this disease is many people tending to pretend that nothing at all is wrong. They tend to believe that the current human social system is the only one possible and that humans have no choice but to muddle along. Thus, a tremendous amount of willful ignorance exists. People shrug and ask rhetorically what can they do. Psychologists call this type of human action cognitive dissonance.

The great secret of this philosophy is that there exists a cure. Humans need not bleed each other to survive. Utopia arguably might never be possible, but an improved world of dramatically reduced conflict certainly is possible. Unfortunately, most people never learn this secret. Those people who embrace the philosophy of statism also control how the majority of people are educated and instructed. These people never disclose the secret and a majority of humans remain ignorant. These people also control many aspects of the current social system. These people have no desire or motivation in relinquishing the powerful positions they maintain within that system. After all, they benefit greatly by obtaining much with little effort. They are motivated therefore to continue the lies of statism. Thus, human conflict continues and will continue.

In my seminal book To Alter Or To Abolish I examined in detail many causes of conflict. I also offered some simple but straightforward solutions to immediately help reduce human conflict. Although in that book I evaluated the causes of statism, I do not repeat those efforts here. Instead, in this book I provide a collection of essays tightly focused on condemning the philosophy of statism. If you seek a better understanding of the root causes of human conflict then you might want to browse To Alter Or To Abolish. If you seek a foundation to better rebut arguments that embrace and support statism then please continue reading. Ignorance is curable with additional knowledge and eliminating ignorance is the primary cure for eliminating statism and the resulting conflict and violence that is derived through that philosophy. Humans need not to continue their existence with this disease.

Be forewarned, however. You cannot un-ring the bell. Once you have read these essays you cannot remain ignorant.

This collection of essays is not an academic effort; that is, you will find no footnotes, references, citations, etc. Many of my ideas were derived from the thoughts and ideas of other people and in an academic project those sources would be properly cited and identified. That is not my purpose here. This book is not expository but merely expressive and exploratory. In a way this book is a journal of thoughts and contemplation; and the source, derivation, or prompting for my thoughts are of secondary importance. If you expect the obligatory line that I accept all responsibility for errors and omissions in this book, well, forget that. This is a book about ideas and ramblings; thus, there can be no “errors.”

Thank you for joining me on my journey.

Finis.
